THE STAG INN, BALLS CROSS
The Stag Inn is set in the beautiful West Sussex hamlet of Balls Cross in Petworth.
Our pub is notable for its little-altered pub interior. The historic core is the two rooms at the center of the pub, which was extended in the late 19th or early 20th century when the former post office cottage was added. A fourth room, formerly the beer store, became the games room in the mid-1990s.
Our public bar has large Horsham flagstones - some 3ft x 4ft but all irregular shapes. Folklore has it that these were laid first, and the building constructed around them!

The old inglenook fireplace is essentially unaltered over the centuries and during the winter it provides a focal point for a comforting relaxing warm welcome...literally.

The Stag Inn is included in the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors, as an important surviving example of a simple pub interior which is largely unaltered since the 19th century.

OUR PARTNERS
HALL & WOODHOUSE
"Beer, at least figuratively, is in our blood. Badger, our crown jewel, is so much more than just beer; it is rich in heritage, expertise, and craftsmanship. It is woven into the tapestry of the last two and a half centuries of world history. And since we started brewing in 1777 we have proudly remained family-owned and Dorset-based."
